The house of Brama, some may call it a house of heroes, others may call it a house of the power hungry and insane. After the formation of the red wing military, and joining of house Brama and house Primrose, it could be easy to assume that the previously poor house Brama would be risen to a station of respect and celebration. But, this was not the case. Brama was a commoners clan, and for every hero born, so too were there a line of thugs. In the early days they rallied behind Derark, but for their loyalty they were sent to die on the fields of war, of those who survived, the ones who did not pledge before the new Primrose, were expunged.
Gylor's family manged to get him free from the cleansing of his uncles name, entrusting him to a mercenary group of Deiren they had fought alongside, who took him with them. From them he learnt to hone his sharp sword skills, wit and sharper tongue. Revelling in battle he would dive into many conflicts, and often find himself outmatched in skill, but never in tenacity. Whenever he was defeated, he would return, strong and better prepared, his attitude beguiled the core intellect he fought with.
You see, Gylor was a master of the blade not only in skill for combat, but in respect for forms, the martial art and the craft. A defeat for him would become a quest, to find and forge a new sword with the ability to counter his newest nemesis, often concealing his trump card functions within his crafted swords behind a planned zinger of a one liner he would dispense at the pivotal moment.
His drive, to defeat Derark in single combat and restore the honour of the Brama name. "You remind me of the hero of a thousand flames", a phrase that infurated him and inflamed his passion to proceed.
But Gylor preferred his information gathering to come from experience, not from rumour, and so in his first duel with his uncle, he was woefully unprepared.
While Derark too revelled in battle, he was a fighter of tactic and focus on the blade, and not at all one for mid battle banter. Gylor would goad and taunt, but made a mistake in the exchange, "Do you ever stop speaking?" "I'll stop speaking when I lose". With that Gylor had accented to Derark's spell. Upon his defeat he was branded with the traitor's scar, the brand cutting away his ability to speak. Gylor, for all his skill with the blade, had never learnt to read nor write, his only knowledge to that end being some runes he'd learnt for the craft of his blades. This act, sealed his ego, but also the potential of his blades. Derark did not kill him however, unknown to Gylor the execution of the Brama clan was against Derark's will. But as the leader of a military, Derark could not show weakness, Gylor was banished as a wanted criminal, to never again interfere with the operations of the red wing military.
Of course, this was not Gylors plan. Defeat for him, a driver as always, and so from his exile, he set off on his next quest. To prepare again to defeat Derark, now aware of his abilities, believing that if we beat his target, he would win back his ability to speak.
A smart mouth that can't speak.
